Ariana Adams, The Founder Of Milk & Honey Babies Shares Her BLM Message

“The recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery highlight that Black lives in this country are deemed, by some, as less worthy of dignity, compassion, justice, and protection.”

-Ariana Adams

Maybe the Black Lives Matter protests aren’t as frequent, but the conversation must continue. We all need to keep learning, listening, and supporting the voices of black people making sure that our world is loving, accepting, and safe for future generations.  So in that light, we were fortunate enough to be able to share the voice of the founder of Milk & Honey Babies, Ariana Adams (@milkandhoneybabies):

As a Black woman in this country, I know all too well the injustices and devastating impact racism has had on my community. The level of racism Black people have endured in this country has torn apart families and communities since its inception. As a daughter of a Black man, I grew up listening to stories of my father having to step off the curb when a white man passed him, during summers he spent in the south as a child. Racial injustice has been an ongoing conversation in my household since I was a little girl. My family didn’t have a choice to simply, not talk about it. And we, as a country, don’t have that choice now. Silence is no longer an option. The recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery highlight that Black lives in this country are deemed, by some, as less worthy of dignity, compassion, justice, and protection. These devastating acts of injustice, harassment, and outright killings are sadly not new, they’re just now being filmed. As a mom of two Black daughters, ages eleven and six, I have been intentional their entire lives about surrounding them with books that affirm them. It is of utmost importance that I affirm them in a society that oftentimes does not. The only way to initiate change is to engage in open and honest dialogue about race in this country. It is incumbent upon us, as productive citizens, to educate ourselves on this country’s history of institutionalized racism. It is not just the responsibility of Black Americans, in fact, it is the responsibility of ALL Americans, to partake in bringing about this change through constructive and honest dialogue and to continue to underscore the fact that Black lives matter.
