Celebrating The Summer Nostalgia In Our New Normal

Summer is in full swing and it has us all reminiscing of memories shared with people we love or our summer vacation getaways. Wanderlust is real, am I right?  This feeling can make us feel discouraged and nostalgic seeking those positive memories connected to Summer. But although we can’t make quite the same memories because of our new normal, we can still feel good and celebrate these memories and the euphoria of warm summer days.

How do we bring back the feeling of summer you ask? It’s quite easy. This positive feeling we have during summer is not connected to external influences, it’s within us. During summer we have more time to dedicate to ourselves and truly do the things we love – this might be going on a vacation with your family, barbecuing in your backyard, or going to the beach. But now it’s about doing the little things that make you feel good and normal during this uncertain time. Even if it’s just putting on your favorite summer dress, or doing your makeup and nails, it’s these little things that hold the spirit of summer and make us feel good. Something as simple as writing yourself a self-care love letter is also a great technique to feel good and practice self-care and self-love this summer.

Take this 4th of July weekend to treat yourself to a little mani/pedi. Experiment with your favorite summer shades or create a red, white, and blue-themed nail art. Whatever makes you feel better and uplifts your spirit. We can still go to the beach as long as we’re being safe, so it’s the perfect time to experiment with your pedicure with perhaps some ocean blues that remind you of the Italian coast? Maybe a lovely lilac that reminds you of lavender fields in France? These colors can carry a special Summer memory that’s meaningful to you. Want to be reminded of the wonders of the sea? Try out a coral shade or a seafoam green! So, go ahead, treat yourself!

There is so much to be grateful for during this summer: the light that hits our windows and wakes us in the morning and the warmth of the sun that awaits us, making our days a little brighter even though we’re indoors. And of course for the memories that we hold onto. But those memories are just highlights in our lives, they’re not what makes us feel happy or fulfilled forever. It’s these little ways we can practice self-care and self-love that make us feel good inside and out.

Happy 4th of July!  We wish you a wonderful rest of the summer and hope you dedicate it to self-love!
