What does wellness mean to you?

I take a holistic approach towards wellness that encompasses ALL aspects of who we are. With my clients and in my own life, I take a “whole person” perspective that considers the multiple, interconnected elements of health including relationships, physical activity, home cooking, career, spirituality, joy and much more. I firmly believe that this approach is necessary to truly cultivate a healthy, happy and balanced life in mind, body and spirit.

What are some common misconceptions about wellness?

Where to begin! First, wellness is far deeper than just how we appear on the outside. Diet and exercise are lauded as being the most important factors in being “healthy”, and while, yes, they are necessary to feel our best, they’re only the beginning. When we begin to prioritize our mental, emotional, social, spiritual, (etc.) health just as much as we do our physical health, we will begin to truly feel “well”.

Likewise, it makes me sad to see and hear when people perceive wellness as unattainable and unrealistic. Social media can often feel into this notion that we have to be “that girl” with a 50-step morning routine and a well-lit, aesthetic apartment to achieve wellness. I hope to show both my clients and followers that feeling good and living a happy, balanced, and health-conscious life IS attainable. I help others take it back to the basics and learn how to lean into small but impactful daily habits to feel well in ALL aspects of life.

What advice would you give your younger self around wellness?

I’d encourage myself to not put so much pressure on being “perfect” – which I now know simply isn’t real. I feel so much stronger mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually today than ever before, much thanks to learning to give myself more grace. I believe we have to find the balance of both consistency AND flexibility to truly be successful with our wellness habits and routines.

How do you get back on track once you fall off the wagon?

I’ve learned the hard way that taking a “bounce back” approach can often do more harm than good. From my own experience and what I see often with clients, this mentality only further feeds into the “all-or-nothing” mindset towards wellness that sets up for failure. Instead, when I’ve been out of my healthy routines for a bit, I just take it back to the basics. This looks like prioritizing activities and meals that make me feel my best – whole, nutrient-dense foods, meditation, movement, sunshine, sleep, hydration. The simple things are often overlooked and so underrated!
